Hi, I’m Nicolle

I cut my teeth in Nursing.

What other communications and marketing experience could I possibly need?

When I share my origin story of how I became the Fairy Godmother of producing digital reputations for entrepreneurs and businesses from my formal training in nursing, there are always raised eyebrows.

Sometimes, a bombastic side-eye.

But for those of us who have ridden the deep ditches belonging to the medical arts (Any service industry, really), you learn two things quickly.

1. Always be quick to duck - more on that story later.

2. Learning and applying the basic principles of effective communication pays off. Big time.

I collected countless valuable lessons as a bedside nurse. But effective communication would be the biggest.

I remember walking into my first shift as a fresh, sparkly new nurse - equal parts terrified and exhilarated - I was given my patient assignments, and the first order of business that day was a catheter for my male patient.

What unfortunate luck.

I gathered my supplies, walked into the room, introduced myself to the patient, and declared what I was about to do.

The response wasn’t what I was hoping for.

“Piss off, Toots!” Followed by a swift toss of a full-ish urinal directed squarely at me.

Always be quick to duck.

Despite successfully dodging a biohazard, I wasn’t off to a great start.

My communication was lacking, and I certainly wasn’t considering who my target audience was or relaying the fact that the procedure I was about to administer would bring about a solution to help alleviate this patient’s problem.

While that situation left me waving the white flag, I got smarter in my positioning and started going into each patient encounter with the mindset of pitching the procedure as part of a solution by clearly defining what it was, how it would happen, and what they could expect as an outcome.

This encounter allowed the patient to develop a baseline of trust with me while having a clear understanding of what I would be doing and why. Along with the potential impact it would have on their healing.

While every interaction wasn’t a home run, taking time to communicate clearly certainly made my life a lot easier.

Since then, I have cultivated and refined my skills in both the private and public sectors, working for high-level government, on strategic communications teams, with key industry stakeholders, and running my own agency, having an absolute blast working with some of the brightest and the best to refine and elevate their digital presence.

Disrupting the space of personal and executive branding is what I’m all about. If you’re ready to empower yourself online - book your call, and let’s rock and roll.

TL;DR Having a urinal tossed at my head taught me to be a more effective communicator.
